Five Local Events Receive Regional Tourism Sponsorship
LEXINGTON, Va. (November 23, 2021) – The Rockbridge Regional Tourism Board has awarded more than $9,500 to local event planners in phase two of their event sponsorship program, an initiative approved in March 2021 to assist with COVID recovery in 2021 and 2022.
The second round of funds totaling $9,581.67 are dedicated to events occurring between January 1 and June 30, 2022. Applications were evaluated based on the strength of the event plans and how well the goals align with regional tourism goals and objectives.
Five events received sponsorship funding in round two: GraVista, an upcoming bike race ($2,333.33); Lime Kiln Theater ($2,160); Maury River Fiddlers Convention ($1,850); Rockbridge Bull & Oyster Festival ($1,805); and Kids Fishing Day ($1,433.33).
“Our efforts to assist local event planners in continuing to rebound from the closures and losses of the pandemic have been fruitful,” said Tourism Director Jean Clark. “People are more and more willing to travel, and the annual festivals and events Lexington, Buena Vista, and Rockbridge County are known for have made a strong reappearance. We are eager to see the trend continue.”
