Driving Directions
The Tooth is located halfway between Lynchburg and Lexington. From the Lexington Visitor Center, drive east on Washington Street to a left at the stoplight onto East Nelson Street (US-60). Continue for 6 miles into Buena Vista. Turn right onto Beech Avenue (US-501) and continue for 15.7 miles to reach the bridge at the Cushaw Reservoir. Continue straight on Virginia Byway (Route 130) for another two miles and watch for the forest service road on the right to access the trail.
From the forest service road gate, hike about one mile and follow the trail as it leads to the right. Merge with another forest service road before turning left onto another trail leading down to Tunstall’s Tooth trail. The Tooth is obvious because it is a rock formation in a significantly worn area. It is to the right of the service road trail.
