Bike
When it comes to road biking, the secret is out: Rockbridge County is a prime place to pedal! Beautiful mountain scenery is the big draw, but low-traffic roads and bike friendly citizens spin Rockbridge County into the cycling big leagues. Quaint downtowns, bustling with farm-to-table bistros and locally owned shops, break-up the longest rides. Smooth byways and leafy trails climb the Blue Ridge Mountains, roll beside the Maury River, and loop through miles and miles of barn-studded countryside.
All rides are published on RideWithGPS.com. To access detailed route information such as turn-by-turn directions (cue sheets), route maps and smartphone app, you will need to create an account with RideWithGPS.com. There are free and fee based accounts based on your needs.
Getting the most enjoyment out of our adventure tours starts with finding your comfort level. Supported and guided rides are available through an outfitter.
- RECREATIONAL: I ride on a regular basis for fun, fitness or commuting to work, cruising flat routes at a brisk pace, rolling terrain or reaching the top of a short mountain. I feel comfortable riding in light to moderate traffic. I enjoy stopping for site seeing, snacks or extra activities.
- ACTIVE: I ride for activity and fitness, on a regular basis 3
or more times per week for 2 or more hrs. I am comfortable with all terrains, climbs
of 3,000 ft. and I can handle my bike safely on descents with speed. I can ride
safely in moderate traffic and I enjoy distances of 40+ miles.
- ADVANCED: I like a faster pace and the physical training of the ride, averaging 100+ miles per week and I am comfortable riding 60+ miles per day on a multiple day tour. I enjoy mountain passes, big hills, steeps descents. I'm comfortable in heavier traffic and I'm comfortable making bicycle repairs.
