Begin and end your Woods Creek Trail walk at Jordan’s Point Park alongside the Maury River. The trail begins at the Miller’s House (back across the small bridge before the parking area) and meanders along Maury River and behind Virginia Military Institute ballfields before crossing a service road. In that vicinity, find a kiosk with trail map and continue on to see some of the buildings of Washington and Lee University, as well as another Miller’s House (now a Montessori school), and public parks. Sarah’s Run, a main tributary, is the end point. You will reach it beyond Waddell Elementary School and upon reaching a residential neighborhood.

From the Lexington Visitor Center, drive west on Washington Street to a right onto Main Street (US-11 Business). Continue driving north for .9 mile past Virginia Military Institute. Turn left at the 1780 Stone House and before the overpass. Follow the access road to the left onto Stono Lane. Cross a small bridge and use the parking area for Jordan’s Point Park. The trail begins next to the old Miller’s House.

• Dogs should be leashed.
• Carry a flashlight if walking at dusk.
• Do not cross low water bridges that are under water.

• Plan to stop along the trail for lunch at Beam Me Up BBQ. It’s near the end of the trail at Lime Kiln Road.
• If you’re not ready to eat, take your lunch “to go” and carry it back to the picnic area at Jordan’s Point Park.
• Treat yourself to an indulgence after your walk. A scoop of homemade ice cream at Sweet Things on Washington Street should do the trick.
